As an electrical engineer at Hedley Studios you will be helping to recreate some of the most iconic cars in history, at various scales with electric powertrains.
We need an enthusiastic Electrical Engineer to participate in all electrical design elements for our little cars. From developing schematics and harness drawings, to packaging electrical/electronic components in CAD and then installing them on the LabCar for testing. Work tasks will be varied and interesting. Teamwork is imperative to getting things done and you will need to be able to communicate effectively within the whole organisation.
There will also be the opportunity to support events at Bicester Heritage such as Sunday Scrambles as well as vehicle testing and other events.
The day-to-day responsibilities:
• Working alongside the Chief Electrical Engineer and vehicle design teams to deliver harness routings and integrate vehicle electrical components.
• Refinement of these designs in the virtual environment, via LabCar testing and pre-production vehicle builds to enable low volume series production.
• Creation and delivery of wiring schematics and harness drawings.
• Ensure that the design of the wiring, electrical systems and electrical components support ease of manufacturing and maintenance.
• Support the assembly and testing of prototype vehicles.
• Support the certification and homologation of pre-production vehicles.
• Support the production team with electrical trouble-shooting and repair.
• Research, development and implementation of new electrical systems/components to support series production.
• Support the quality testing of outgoing vehicles from the factory for electrical function and safety.
• Liaise with components suppliers to provide quality and cost efficient designs.
• Appraise the design, quality and robustness of prototype parts in order to develop necessary improvements for production vehicles.
• Support continuous improvement of the engineering process to provide safer, more efficient designs.
Required skills:
• Holder of a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent Electrical/Electronic Engineering qualification.
• A background in niche, low volume or motorsport engineering with a broad understanding of vehicle electrical systems and components.
• High level of attention to detail and a focus on safety and minimising risk.
• Able to create clean sheet designs, taking them from concept to manufacture.
• Able to understand and translate design requirements into reality, including Type Approval and other legislative requirements.
• Able to balance the technical and commercial aspects of component and system design.
• Experienced in the integration of electrical systems into a vehicle platform.
• Able to generate and manage Bills of Materials.
• Experience of Cadonix, Arcadia, Zuken (or similar) wiring harness design tool.
• Experience with Low Voltage vehicle wiring design and assembly.
• Experience of developing/delivering electrical/electronic projects, preferably in a vehicle environment.
• Experience with Electronic Diagnostic Test Equipment.
• Experience with CAN/LIN networks.
• Ability to diagnose and root cause Electrical/Electronic system faults. Identify potential design, assembly or service issues during the development phases and implement remedial solutions.
• Practical and detail-oriented, with a hands-on approach. Comfortable in the design office as well as in the workshop.
• High level of attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality
