If you are looking to work in an R&D environment at the early, concept and experimentation stage of the NPD process then this is the position for you. You’ll be joining a small team of Development Engineers who are creating and proving new product ideas, providing analytical and practical support for the development cell, as well as taking a hands-on approach to research and development challenges. The role is split between producing prototypes and provide technical guidance with development and testing of non-production products. You’ll aid with the specification, design, development, testing, integration and qualification of the production and processes.

Principal Accountabilities
•    Aid with the development, design and running of the development cell working closely with Maintenance and Industrialisation Engineers to make improvements and develop approved process documentation.
•    Produce prototypes and assist with the process specification and manufacturing work instructions.
•    Assist and witness the development of control architecture and code.
•    Participate in the development of monitoring and inspection methods, equipment, and instrumentation to facilitate greater understanding of the automation process.
•    Prepare test procedures, analyse test data, and write test reports to clearly communicate the objectives, methods and results of development testing.

You’ll need excellent communication and collaboration skills in this position as you’ll be liaising with members of the Production, Maintenance, and Industrialisation teams. The QA, Test and Project Management departments will also be part of your development circle.

Job Knowledge & Experience
•    Education – Batchelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D. or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, materials, manufacturing or controls)
•    Industrial experience from with R&D and Manufacturing environments
•    Technical Skills – Experience of composites manufacture or testing would be desirable. Data processing or programming experience in Excel, Python or similar software packages.
•    Exposure to data logging/acquisition sensors and equipment would be useful
•    Capable of understanding complex bespoke equipment that use mechanical, electronic, control systems and processes to operate.
•    Good communication and report writing skills.
•    Interpersonal Skills – energy and enthusiasm for tackling challenging engineering problems, team player and good scheduling skills

This position would suit an Engineer who is interested in working in an iterative R&D environment and likes the idea of building and developing prototypes, as well as analysing the data from testing these. Creating production processes should also appeal to you as well as working with others in a team environment.
