Lead Electronics Engineer

Location: Norfolk
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Circa £80,000 + benefits


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Lead Electronics Engineer to join our growing engineering team.
This is a key role responsible for delivering high-volume power electronics projects and providing technical leadership to the Electronics team.
You will work closely with the CTO and VP of Engineering to align projects with the company’s strategic objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electronic development of new motor drive and charging electronics.
  • Design electronic controllers optimised for cost, performance, manufacturability, test, and quality.
  • Manage PCB layouts, ensuring electromagnetic and thermal performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Deliver electronics projects in line with technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and planning for the electronics team’s activities.
  • Support product and programme managers with resource and delivery scheduling.
  • Offer technical input into supply chain and manufacturing processes.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineers and technicians.
  • Drive process improvements across the engineering function.
  • Build strong relationships with key internal teams, including Software/Firmware, Procurement, and PMO.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Electronics or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong background in Power Electronics Design, including Design for Manufacture in high-volume, harsh environment applications.
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to scale teams effectively.
  • Expertise in electronics project technical management throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.
  • Experience with PCB, mechanical, and software integration.
  • Simulation experience (Simulink, Matlab, Simetrix, or LTSpice).
  • EMC compliance knowledge and design considerations.
  • Experience working with various battery chemistries (Li-ion, Lifepo4, Lead Acid).
  • Familiarity with Electronics CAD software (Altium preferred).
  • Understanding of firmware integration with hardware designs.

Desirable:

  • Experience with AC/DC topologies and three-phase systems.
  • Hands-on magnetics design knowledge.
  • Strong grasp of control loop theory and system simulation for control algorithm development.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership is desirable.

Additional Information

  • Full driving licence and own vehicle required (insured for business use).
  • Some overseas travel may be necessary.
  • Must be IT proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MRP systems).
