£30-50k + Bonus + Bens

In this new role you will design, implement, and test algorithms for hybrid navigation solutions. You’ll work alongside the Principal Navigation Engineer and with a team of embedded software engineers to develop new as well as maintain the current navigation algorithm codebase.

The role will have responsibilities in capturing requirements and scoping new projects, the design and testing of new navigation algorithms, and guiding the deployment and validation of those algorithms onto hardware products.

The ideal candidate will have a strong and demonstrable understanding of navigation principles and technologies as well as experience of developing software to industry best practices. Whilst experience in the marine or subsea electronics industry would beneficial, it is not essential.

The main responsibilities can be broken down into these key elements:

• Navigation Algorithm Development

• Sensor Selection and Modelling

• Simulation and Validation

• Real-time Software

• Collaboration

The role requires the use of Matlab and C++ to both model new algorithms and develop working prototypes for running on either Windows based PCs or Linux based embedded processors.

Areas of interest:

• Practical application of navigation and positioning algorithms as used in robotics and autonomous vehicles.

• Kalman Filters

• SLAM

• Sensor Fusion Techniques

• Design and development of algorithms for strapdown inertial navigation systems.

• Inertial measurement units (IMU), doppler velocity logs (DVL), acoustic positioning systems, GNSS

• Experience with modelling sensors (IMU, DVL, GNSS) in Matlab

• MSc Navigation / Control Systems, Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or similar degree

This position would suit either a recent graduate or experienced engineer who has specialised in navigation algorithm development. Occasional travel to a testing facility in Plymouth might be required.
